Student’s Corner

Last Wednesday Grassroots had their annual Mount Trashmore event right outside of Wilson Commons. This event was perfect for Recyclemania’s landfill week as well as the finale! The main goal of Mt. Trashmore is to spread awareness of consumer waste by piling a day’s worth of trash from Wilson Commons and Douglass Dining Hall on the lawn of the quad. It was a great turnout this year as well. Many students joined Grassroots in witnessing the amount of waste produced. It should lead us reflecting on how we can reduce waste in our daily lives. Since most of the waste management is done “behind the scene,” it is so easy to miss how much trash we throw away every day. Awareness and recognition are the first step to solve a problem. We hope you walked away from this learning something important. Thanks to Grassroots that once again we had a great RecycleMania event. For next year’s Mt. Trashmore, we hope to see you there!
