Spring Flowers

spring flowersIf you’re an avid garden or simply buying Spring flowers for your garden it seems there is no escaping the plastic containers. Most annuals come in pots that are either #5 or #6 plastic, neither of which are  recyclable in Monroe County. One way to avoid sending these plastics to the landfill is to wash and reuse them, after all reuse is the second R after reduce. However, now there are other options for us who are trying to go the extra step to be environmentally friendly!

Garden stores, including home improvement stores like Home Depot and Lowes are now selling flowers that are available in compostable or biodegradable pots. These environmentally friendly pots are constructed of 100% biodegradable fiber, great for nursery plants and a great alternative to plastic pots.
