Environmental Instagram accounts to follow at the University of Rochester

Instagram is a popular way for people, especially students, to stay up to date with environmental news, events, and updates. There are a lot of environmental groups at the University that are active on Instagram that post about their events.

I couldn’t not include ourselves on this list. If you aren’t following us on Instagram – you should be! We post about events we’re holding, share other environmental group’s events, and post about different recycling programs on campus.

Dining Team Green is a student-led group that supports sustainability initiatives within Dining, such as their Zero Waste Dinner and celebrating National Farmworkers Awareness Week through educational events.

 

@urgrassroots

Grassroots is an environmental activism club at the River Campus and hosts weekly meetings centered on different environmental topics and monthly clothing exchanges. They are also the main organizer of Earthfest every April. The above photo is from an Earthfest tree planting event in 2023.

The University of Rochester Bee Campus USA is a new and growing organization and has already hosted three pollinator garden planting events. Keep an eye on their Instagram for their next event!

Sustainability through Engineering is a student organization that works on a variety of student-led sustainability projects at the University. They also host events throughout the year such as lab tours, talks by researchers, and a campus power plant tour.

GreenSpace is special interest housing on campus for students passionate about sustainability. They also host events throughout the year such as vegan cooking nights and crafts.

 

@ecorepsur

EcoReps promote sustainability on campus, mainly to first year students. They also occasionally host events and post informational graphics.

The Society of Earth and Environmental Science Students is mainly meant for students within the department as they collaborate with the department for events such as course advising and their annual spring picnic.
