Results for GameDay Football Zero Waste Touchdown Challenge are in!

On October 7, “Zero Waste Ranger” volunteers participated in the GameDay Football Zero Waste Touchdown Challenge, an annual national competition to divert waste from landfill at football home games. This year we finished with a great showing of 80% in waste diversion! After winning this category nationally in 2018 and ranking second in 2019, we hope to be on our way back to pre-pandemic diversion rates. It’s a team effort across the University, both on and off the field.

A BIG THANK YOU goes to everyone who took part in this event. We were well staffed with volunteers including students, staff, and friends. The success of this event relies on collaboration between multiple University departments, including Dining, Athletics, Environmental Services, and Grounds.

Participating schools have the season to register and report data from their events as part of the national challenge. The results of the national competition will be announced in January. Here is a look at how we did this year:

GameDay Football stats:

  • Total Landfill Waste: 42 pounds
  • Total Recycled: 112 pounds
  • Total Organics: 57 pounds
  • Total Diverted: 169 pounds (organics and recyclables)

Thanks to all who made this year a success! Go you Yellow Jackets!
