Commuting More Sustainably

Commuting to campus does not necessarily mean that you need your own car and that you need to drive. The University has multiple programs that help people save money and reduces the number of cars on the road.

Take the Shuttle or Bus

Firstly, the University has multiple shuttles that go to various nearby areas including the 19th Ward, various parking lots, downtown near Eastman, Corporate Woods, and more. Additionally, the Regional Transit Service runs frequently through many parts in and around Rochester. See if there is a route near you!

Carpool or Vanpool

The University offers multiple benefits for carpooling and vanpooling aside from the natural benefits that come from it. Firstly, you save money on fuel expenses by sharing them amongst the car-/vanpooling group. Secondly, there are cheaper parking passes available for carpooling and vanpooling depending on the number of people in that carpooling group, where four or more people means a free parking permit! Additionally, the 511NY Rideshare platform can help you find students and/or employees nearby to carpool or vanpool with.

The 511NY Rideshare platform also allows you to find good transit, bike, or RTS routes.

Walk or Bike

Lastly, if you are close enough to the University, walk or bike and get the money savings and the health benefits.

Help reduce the number of cars on the road. Reduce maintenance needed, resources consumed, GHG emissions, and more.
