Sustainability Superstar: Mike Preston

Behind the counter of the Campus Mail Center, Mail Clerk Mike Preston works to make waste reduction a priority. He helps break down and consolidate the boxes from student packages so that more can be recycled. He also works to collect bubble wrap and air bags delivered to UPS for reuse. In addition, Mike has become a regular volunteer at the University’s recycling events, such as Shred Fest and the GameDay Recycling Challenge.

One of the many masks Mike has created out of repurposed materials.

Outside of work, Mike uses his creativity for many upcycling projects. Using repurposed materials, he creates a variety of different art pieces. He makes rain sticks, masks, and even scarecrows out of products that most people consider trash. Mike enjoys thinking outside of the box to create something from nothing and encourages others to recycle material by getting creative.
