Celebrating America Recycles Day

America Recycles Day is officially November 15. But this year, we let the festivities ensue for more than a week!

For the first time ever, we registered our ninth annual E-Cycle Day event as an America Recycles Day event. We were fortunate enough to receive promotional stickers and pencils from the organization which made our patrons extra happy to receive when they dropped off their items to be recycled! It was a great day in which we collected approximately 30,000 pounds of electronics! A huge thank you to the DU fraternity who sent volunteers to the event for the seventh year in a row! Also a huge thank you to our Med Center Facilities operations volunteers, Dave Izzo, Ulysses Holmes and Caleb Morrow as well as our partner electronics recycler, Sunnking. Some of our volunteers are pictured above. See more pictures from the event here.

ardOur Facilities Team Green students engaged the student community with some fun last week too! They tabled on America Recycles Day to explore why students recycle on campus. Pictured left is Katie Larson who recycles because “matter must be conserved.” Check out the full photo album here. The team also rewarded people with prizes for recycling in the “Caught Green-handed” campaign. Check out those photos here.

And while we are on the topic of feel-good recycling initiatives, let’s not miss the opportunity to brag about the fact that we were asked to speak at the annual NYSAR3 Conference in Cooperstown earlier this month to talk about the EcoReps PLastic Bag Reduction Project. Kudos to David Marshall and Patricia Van Valkenburgh for spearheading this effort among the EcoReps and giving a dynamite presentation!!
