Moving In and Moving On

It is officially a brand new semester as classes begin today for the 2015-2016 academic year. Last week was a bit of a whirlwind with students moving in and orientation! Recycling bins are looking good with our new labels and signage that is framed above over 150 locations on campus. Our Recycling 101 Installments are up in the bathroom stalls of every residential building. There was a lot of work that went on behind the scenes to say the least.

Starting with the survey and research project that was conducted this summer by intern, Jake Post. We got some really excellent feedback from the survey and used it to make the best decisions going forward. Thanks to all who participated and a GIANT THANKS to Jake. The timing for new signage and labels seemed to be just right as the Monroe County Recycling Facility made some changes. Hopefully you read all about it in last week’s Go Green article.

The new group of EcoReps arrived and received their own Recycling 101 training right off the bat so they can now spread the good word to fellow freshmen. Our temporary bins were full of cardboard and about 125 pounds of styrofoam was gathered for a special collection. We thank the EcoReps so much for their role with that on move-in day!

We welcomed the class of 2019 at the EXPO with our favorite giveaway, solar powered flashlight keychains in a variety of colors. Everyone seemed to like them and white was the official favorite color choice this year.

We also challenged students with a recycling sorting game and encouraged them to take the Go Green Pledge during the Green EXPO. Thanks to Dining Team Green for putting that event together!

Now as the dust is settling from move-in, Facilities Team Green is gearing up to make it great green year!
