Clay’s Green Corner

Greetings, blog posse. The Corner was waiting for a beautiful pre-spring day to give a major shout-out to our UR Grounds department, when lo and behold, mama nature is just not finished with ol’ man winter just yet and we got socked with a fresh half-foot of snow. Like the Dude, the Corner abides.

This endless winter notwithstanding, a hearty congratulations to the University of Rochester’s Grounds department for making our campus just the sixth college campus in New York state to be declared a Tree Campus USA. Tree Campus USA is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation and honors through recognition colleges and universities that make a commitment to preserving, growing and appreciating trees in all their splendor. Our staff work hard all year round and knowing all that sweat and hustle and muscle and planning and planting pays off with recognition by The Arbor Day Foundation makes their efforts very worth while. Is your campus a Tree Campus USA?  Here’s the Arbor Day web site: http://www.arborday.org/programs/treecampususa/

If you don’t see your campus listed (really there are not that many), see what you can do about getting your campus to participate. It’s a great organization and brings us just one day closer to enjoying our trees and flowers when in bloom.

Now, where did I put that ice melt, shovel, boots, and gloves?
