Tuning into Webinars

It’s quite refreshing to come across a modern convenience in life that is also planet friendly. Webinars allow us to hear experts speak on topics without having to leave campus, our offices, or even better, the comfort of our own homes. Of course, the time saving factor of not having to travel somewhere is a major advantage. But we can also gain a wealth of information without adding our vehicle’s emissions to the air. Perhaps the best part is that there is no tie or business suit required. You can wear you pj’s if you’d like! There are even virtual conferences that allow you to go to different rooms at your convenience, ask questions, network with others, and even visit a vendor fair area. The only thing missing is a virtual lunch! Here are some upcoming opportunities to hear some good information on sustainability, while being sustainable:

  • The EPA and the West coast Climate and Materials Management Forum has put together a Consumption and the Environment series, which starts tomorrow. Topics include: Unsustainable Consumption, Your Eco Footprint & Downsizing Your Consumption, Food: Why we eat too much and waste too much, and Changing Industry & the Morality of Editing Consumer Choice. This series is designed to help anyone lower their greenhouse gas emissions and become a more sustainable consumer.  For more information go to: www.epa.gov/region10/webinars.

  •  The National Wildlife Federation 2011 Greener Campus Webinars line-up is underway with the next one on February 1oth. You can learn about some green college subjects including Eco-Reps (a program that UR is proud to boast), incorporating sustainability in the curriculum, and opportunities in green jobs. Find out more.

  • Get in the game of RecycleMania! It’s always nice when webinars that have already taken place are made available online for you to visit at your convenience. The organizers of RecycleMania have made 3 available on their website on data reporting for beginners, promotional ideas, and an explanation of the rules.

It seems as though there are more opportunities every day. So take advantage of them and tune in!
