In the spririt of RecycleMania 2010, some students went to visit the Monroe County Recycling Center to see what happens to their recyclables after they place them in the bin. Three different tour groups visitted the facility on the afternoon of Friday, February 12, 2010.
The recycling center is actually made of three different parts; the Transfer Station, the industrial recycling center and the curbside recycling center.
The tour groups learned how each of these parts operate. They also got to see first hand how the sorting machines use magnetic and air seperation to minimize the amount needed to be sorted out by hand.
Many of the students said that they learned a lot and that it helped positively impact their view on recycling. Now they will spread the word to help encourage other students do their part!
