Green Transportation

It has become common knowledge that vehicles emit pollutants that damage the ozone layer and pollute the air. Luckily, there are many creative ways to avoid contributing to this escalating environmental issue. Here are some ideas as to making your transportation more sustainable:

–          Ride a bike or walk whenever possible. Take advantage of the scenic bike trails Rochester has to offer. Or, check out the many group bike rides that are free for everyone. Two popular websites are parkavebike.com and rochesterbicyclingclub.com.

–          Take the bus whenever possible, or organize carpools.

–          Drive a hybrid or an electric car, which have lower emissions and better mileage than a regular vehicle.

–          Find creative and unusual ways to travel. Cross country skiing, scooters, rollerblading, unicycling, pogo sticks, you name it! This can be a great bonding experience with family or friends!

  1. I agree totally when it comes to green transportation. I have also started a green safari where we use bikes to view wildlife in Masai Mara Game Reserve. This is only possible outside the boaders of the park where there are numerous wildlife too. I hope other tour organisers will try to popularise this too.

Generally this is right, but of course my little Mazda 3 is more efficient than an electric car that is powered by a coal power plant – and some models of electric cars have well below a 30 mpg equivalent, which makes the need for cleaner sources of electricity obvious.

Of course, an even better (short term) solution is to buy up all of the Escalades … and not drive them!
