This past two Fridays, April 1st and April 8th, the SPIE UR Student Chapter visited Vuzix, an optics company headquartered right here in Rochester. Vuzix is a leading developer of smart glasses and video eyewear, with products for both the consumer market and its industry partners. The tour, lead by Robert Shultz (Head of Optics Research and Development), included detailed presentations on the company as well as demos on current and in-development technology.
Apart from the office cubicles, the clean room, the various testing labs, and the kitchen foyer where we were fed pizza, in an effort to “bring in a bit of the west coast” to the office, Vuzix also has a game room complete with foosball and a HTC virtual reality set.

Don’t see the students put on Vuzix products like M300, M3000 or iWear Video Headphone. Why??
Hi Paul, we did actually! In the clean room behind us in the group photo, we tried on an iWear that was hooked to a PlayStation. It would have been a great photo op I agree, but in the excitement of the moment we forgot… and we also didn’t want to impose ourselves in case there are trade secrets, etc.
