Announcing the 15th annual E-Cycle Day

On Friday, October 21, University Facilities and Services will hold the fifteenth annual E-Cycle Day, from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Zone 3 South. E-Cycle Day is a convenient way for University faculty, staff, students, and alumni to securely recycle their old, broken, or unwanted electronic items. Facilities and Services partners with Sunnking, an electronics recycling company, for the event.

Why should I participate?

Electronics can be difficult to recycle and can contain private personal information. The E-Cycle day set-up makes it easy for you to drive through and be out within minutes or less.

Sunnking is a local EPA R2 certified electronics recycling, data destruction, and asset management company, specializing in end-of-life electronics and equipment. Sunnking erases all personal information and eliminates the possibility of identity theft. Sunnking is also compliant with HIPAA and a variety of other regulations listed on their website. You can read more about their hard drive shredding and wiping here. This helps keep you safe from becoming a victim of identity theft.

After taking appropriate security measures, Sunnking makes its best effort to resell or reuse electronics. All other electronics are recycled and used to make new products, ensuring a sustainable alternative to directly disposing of unwanted electronics.

How should I prepare for the event?

The event is not only intended for equipment that contains personal data, but includes many other types of electronics as well. Accepted items include computer monitors and accessories (printers, monitors, mice, keyboards, webcams, speakers, microphones, etc.), scanners, televisions, microwave ovens, coffee makers, telephones, power tools, gaming equipment, lamps, cables and wires, cell phone chargers, video equipment, tablets, and nearly anything else with a circuit board or a cord.

Sunnking does NOT accept electronic items containing the cooling agent Freon, including refrigerators and air conditioners, broken CRTs, alkaline batteries, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, and anything containing liquid or radioactive materials. For a more complete list of accepted items, visit Sunnking’s website.

Please note this event is for household and personal equipment. Departmental and University-owned electronics will not be accepted. To schedule a pick-up of University-owned electronics, visit the IT Equipment Recovery Program webpage. If you cannot attend E-Cycle Day, the IT Equipment Recovery Program extends its services for personal items as well. You can also utilize the Monroe County ecopark where you can drop-off most electronics.
