Gardening is a sustainable hobby whether it is to grow your own food or to make your indoor or outdoor garden look pretty. It can seem to be daunting for many beginners however there are many resources available to help you get started. One such resource is an app called PictureThis available on both App Store and Google Play.
PictureThis is a plant identification app that can help you keep a catalog of all the plants in your garden. Plant identification is important to ensure your plants get proper care. For plant enthusiasts, a plant identification app is great to have if one comes across an interesting looking plant and wonders what it is. It can also be useful if you’re buying new plants for your house and want to know how much care it will need before purchasing. Since the app uses artificial intelligence to identify plants, there is a chance the app may identify a plant incorrectly however it claims to have a 98% accuracy
To identify a plant, all you need to do is take a picture of the plant with the app. You can then use the navigation bar to go to the “My Plants” section of the app where all the plants will be shown with their common name, scientific name, light and water needs. You can also diagnose any diseases in your plants by going to the “Diagnose” section of the app and simply taking a few pictures of the affected area in the plant. The app will show possible diseases accordingly with some tips to treat the disease. Other services offered by the app are weeds identification, identifying plants that are toxic to pets, insect identification and bird identification.
There is a lot to learn about gardening for people who are new to it. PictureThis also has several learning resources for gardeners; there is a feed on the homepage of the app that contains trends, useful tips, suggestions for plants to grow, and also a Flower of the Week.
The app has a premium version that users can subscribe to by paying a monthly fee. The premium subscription gives users access to asking expert botanists questions and more detailed gardening guides. The free version of the app is pretty comprehensive and a great resource for gardeners of all expertise levels.
