Connecting with Sustainability Resources

The University offers many opportunities to educate and engage students, faculty, and affiliates, especially when it relates to sustainability. Even with social distancing in place and most events going virtual, there are still ways to connect with sustainable resources. Whether you decide to join a new organization or partake in a virtual event, there are many ways for everyone to connect with a community of like minded University members.

For everyone

Read our blog: The Green Dandelion is a great website to learn about the University’s latest sustainability achievements and events. Weekly “Student’s Corner” and “Tip of The Week” are informational too.

Participate in events: Like other campus groups, Facilities Team Green organizes events throughout the year. Some examples include the annual E-Cycle Day and Shred Fest. The Community Tree Planting event was held in effort to symbolically demonstrate that while many are physically distanced from the University at this time, sustainability lives and grows on our campuses.

Social media: Another way to learn about current events is to follow Facilities Team Green and other organizations on social media. Facilities Team Green has accounts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

For students

Join Student Organizations via CCC: There are many student organizations that support a sustainable lifestyle. Some include Grassroots, EcoReps, SAVVY, Greenspace, Dining Team Green, and Society of Earth and Environmental Science Students.

Take a class: The University offers courses, minors, clusters, and majors related to sustainability. For more information, visit Sustainable Studies and speak to your advisor.

For faculty

Join the Green Reps Program: Green Reps are a team of University of Rochester employees from many different departments who care about workplace sustainability. They act as sustainability advocates, teachers, and liaisons in their department. By signing up as a Green Rep, you will receive the monthly e-newsletter, The Compost, which contains tools, tips, and resources. Here is a link to sign up: www.rochester.edu/sustainability/greenreps/.
