We’ve previously discussed the controversy over sheet face masks. The disposable masks come in plastic packaging with even some additional plastic sheeting inside. This packaging and the sheets themselves are usually not recyclable. The EPA reports that a significant portion of consumer waste is materials used for packaging. Plastics can take thousands of years to decompose although we additionally see that microplastics make their way into larger bodies of water, potentially affecting both humans and aquatic life.
However, we can do our part to reduce waste! By creating your own face masks to care for your skin, you can eliminate the plastic packaging waste and maybe even cut down on food waste by using items from your pantry and fridge. Not to mention you can tailor it to fit your needs! Varying skin types can make it difficult to find skin care products that work for you, especially with unknown added ingredients!
