Ecopark: Rochester’s Recycling Hub

Ecopark describes itself as “an innovative partnership between Monroe County and Waste Management to provide a “one stop drop off” for residential recycling.” Just a short drive from the University’s main campus, Ecopark is located at 10 Avion Drive, Rochester, NY 14624. It is open to all Monroe County residents, Wednesdays from 1:00 pm to 6:30 pm and Saturdays from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm. With post-holiday cleanups at home, many of us are left with a variety of unwanted  items, from paper and plastic to electronics, clothing, and pharmaceutical goods. Ecopark serves as a convenient option to recycle all these items and much more.

The facility is broken up into different recycling stations, most of which are self-serve. On the website is a list of items that are or are not accepted, some of which are fee-based or require an appointment (such as household hazardous waste). Before going to Ecopark, make sure to check the website to ensure items will be accepted. The website also includes an informative video tour of the facility to give you a better picture of what you can expect when you arrive.

The University of Rochester hosts a few annual recycling events, such as E-Cycle Day (for electronic waste recycling, in partnership with Sunnking) and Shred Fest (for paper shredding and recycling, in partnership with Iron Mountain). Eco Park is a great option for those who have missed these events and are looking to get rid of their items before the next annual event.
