Announcing Shred Fest 2018

On Friday, July 20, University Facilities and Services will be holding the eighth annual Shred Fest, from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Zone 3 South. With the help of Iron Mountain, items such as bills, bank statements, tax records, newspapers, and magazines will be securely shredded and recycled. University faculty, staff, and students alike are encouraged to drop off any and all unwanted personal documents.

The fear that at-home disposal of important documents will put personal identity at risk is valid and troublesome. To avoid this concern, bring your items to Shred Fest. There, your personal documents will be securely destroyed and handled in an eco-friendly way.

Throughout the event, volunteers will be standing by to help you unload your car. Paper documents received will be securely locked into a container, then sent up a chute into an Iron Mountain truck for secure shredding. Any boxes and plastic bags used to carry the documents will be recycled, too. If you wish to witness the shredding of your items, simply ask for the viewing when you are met by our volunteers. Please allow extra time for this.

There is no limit to how many personal documents you can drop off. Last year a total of 21,380 pounds was collected, making it the second largest collection event held at the University to date! It is not necessary to remove staples, paper clips, or rubber bands from the documents.

However, please refrain from bringing phone books, hardcover books, plastics, metals, trash, or departmental items. If your department has a need for confidential shredding, please call the Facilities Customer Service Center at 273-4567 for details.

Please be advised that there may be a period of time when the truck will need to be emptied and will temporarily not be on site. Should this occur, documents will be locked securely in containers until the truck returns to continue shredding on-site.

To get to Zone 3 South by car from the Medical Center:

  1. Head south on Elmwood Ave. and take a right onto Wilson Blvd. to enter the River Campus
  2. Take your first right (before the information booth) onto Trustee Road
  3. Take another right onto Intercampus Drive
  4. Drive across the bridge over Elmwood Ave.
  5. Park Lot will be to the right. Signs will be posted to help direct you.
