What to do with Medicine Bottles

Have you ever wondered what to do with your empty prescription bottles? While the pill bottles are plastic, due to their small size they are sometimes mistaken as unwanted debris by recycling programs and sent to landfills . Thus, it is important to check if your municipality can recycle the bottles. If not, often times local pharmacies have a pill bottle recycling program of their own, and you can bring them back there. Before recycling, remember to remove or mark over the prescription label.

For those into DIY projects, you can also get creative with your leftover bottles by “upcycling” them! Upcycling is the transformation of waste-materials or unwanted scraps into new materials and products. Check out how you can transform your prescription bottles into something new! Here are just a few of the ideas listed:

  • Travel Sized Shampoo/Conditioners
  • Portable Sewing Kit
  • Seed container
  • Small flower vase, and more!

  1. Excellent DIY resources! I have a TON of prescription pills bottles lying around, and they just kept biting the dust instead of me throwing them out. Glad to know I can put them to some use now.
