Associate Director of University Health Service Ann McMican is known for many things, one being her passion for sustainability. In the spirit of National Bike to Work Month, we want to share this particular story. A few years ago, Ann’s office held a staff challenge for the entire summer: they were asked to take alternate transportation to work. The options included biking, kayaking, walking, taking the bus, carpooling, or any other method staff could devise rather than driving alone in a car. Ann’s team set a goal of logging at least 100 alternative trips in about eight weeks with at least 15 participants. When the goal was met, they had an all-staff ice cream social to celebrate.
Consider taking alternative transportation next week as National Bike to Work Week 2018 will be held from May 14–18.
