Student’s Corner

On this lovely (nearly) summer day, I’m going to encourage you to go green by cooking for yourself. There are so many benefits that come from cooking at home for yourself or for loved ones. Here’s what happens when you switch from going out to eat to cooking at home.

  • You’re more aware of your waste. It’s a lot harder to justify throwing out something you spent all day preparing. It also allows you to set your own portions and cook just enough for who you are feeding.

  • You can choose your own ingredients. You can ensure that you will enjoy everything on your plate. You can also choose ingredients that are seasonal and fresh. A really great way to do this is to go to the Public Market and buy fresh, local produce for the week.
  • You can save money and still have quality time with friends and family.  You don’t have to spend the money on going out, getting all dressed up, and paying for an expensive meal; it can actually be quite inexpensive to make your own meals and it can be a lot of fun to prepare them and share them with others.

Happy cooking!
