In an order issued February 26, 2015 (REV Order), the NY Public Service Commission required NY utilities to implement a self-direct program for its large energy users. In collaboration PSC Staff, the utilizes and large industrial customers developed and issued guidelines that establish rules and principles for the Self-Direct Program. In addition, the commission required electric utilities to implement a Self-Direct Program for large energy users by January 1, 2017.
The Self-Direct Program is intended to encourage unique energy management actions by large electric use customers. participants are allowed to self-direct the funds that have paid into a special account toward effective energy efficiency investments for their facility over a period of three years and complement existing or future strategic energy management activities.
This program is open to RG&E nonresidential commercial, industrial and institutional customers with a 36-month average electricity demand of 2 megawatts or greater, or with a multiple-account 36-month average demand of 4 megawatts or greater, provided one or more of the accounts has a 36-month average demand of at least 1 megawatt.
The University of Rochester is currently reviewing the benefits of this new program. Look for announcements as energy conservation projects are completed under this program beginning January 2017.
