Summer Projects

Who doesn’t love summer? With the harsh winter we had this year in Rochester, this one feels particularly rewarding. One of the perks of summer here is that we are able to hire student interns to join Facilities Team Green full-time. Compared to the part-time help students offer during the academic year, it always feels AMAZING on how much more we are able to accomplish with the extra staff time during the summer. I’d like to take a moment to proudly introduce the two interns we have with us this year.

Meet, Jake (shown left in the picture above). Jake Post comes to us with a wealth of experience in campus sustainability under his belt, as one of last year’s EcoReps coordinators and the current program director. Jake is working with us both as a Facilities Employee and also through the College of AS&E Sustainability Internship program, so that we are able to have his help full-time all summer. Jake is working on a survey and research project to gain insight and make improvements on various aspects of our recycling program, including signage and labeling, container availability, communication, and how to effectively integrate single stream recycling into our operations.

Meet, Mariah (shown right in the picture above). Mariah Greico just completed her freshman year as an EcoRep and has engaged with the community as a LEAP tutor and through the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. Mariah is working as a writing/marketing intern through the summer and then will transition into our marketing team member when the academic year begins. You will see her name on our Go Green articles and as well as our weekly tips. She is also working on award applications, managing our Facebook page, creating signage, and other writing and marketing projects.

Come mid-July through the end of August both team members will be working hard to put new labels on our recycling containers, install new framed signage on campus, put up our annual inSTALLments into the bathroom stalls of all residential buildings, and prepare for Orientation activities.

You can read more about Jake and Mariah in their bios on our Authors page.

We are so glad to have them both on the team!
