Although you might have seen us around campus or tabling at Club Rochester, the University of Rochester Facilities and Services would like to officially introduce Team Green of 2014-2015.
For those of you who may not know, Team Green is a sustainability group of students working for Facilities and Services. Managed by Amy Kadrie, University of Rochester’s Recycling Coordinator, the team is responsible for effectively communicating pertinent information about sustainability on campus to the University of Rochester community. There is another Team Green on campus; Dining’s Team Green, with whom we sometimes collaborate, as we share similar goals. Our logo and job descriptions are actually modeled upon theirs. Our team is actively involved in numerous sustainability events throughout the year, including ShredFest, Move-out Cleanout, E-Cycle Day, RecycleMania, the Game Day Challenge, and more. There are three student staff positions, including the writer, assistant, and marketing intern.
Julie Elliot is Team Green’s writer and a senior at the University of Rochester. She is in charge of spreading awareness of sustainability news through GoGreen articles and other articles for the Green Dandelion blog. GoGreen articles have a broad audience, as they are published in Rochester employee newsletters and other outlets. In order to produce these articles, Julie gets to conduct interviews and research around campus and beyond. In her spare time, Julie can be found participating in Students for a Democratic Society, running, or browsing produce at the Rochester Public Market.
Linda Shackles, our unofficial technology master, is a member of the Class of 2017. Linda is the marketing intern, and this role involves managing the URSustainable Facebook page, which helps us to publicize initiatives and events, as well as share news and pictures. Linda also creates promotional material for events, and is one of the leaders of the RecycleMania planning committee. In addition to her role as the marketing intern, Linda is a member of GreenSpace, the University’s sustainability interest-floor. Its members are devoted to decreasing their environmental impact as well as disseminating sustainability news and information. Linda is also active in the Student Association, or SA.
This is Leslie Wolf’s third year as the sustainability assistant. Her job involves a variety of responsibilities, from compiling data, arranging and facilitating meetings, to organizing RecycleMania events. Through the position, Leslie spreads awareness about sustainability news, and helps to further develop the university’s programs. A political science major, she is hoping to eventually pursue a career in energy policy. Leslie also enjoys music (both listening to and creating), as well as yoga and adventuring.
We have a great team this year, with some exciting events coming up. Additionally, look out for our Students Corner articles every Friday! We are passionate about sustainability at the University of Rochester, and we hope that you will get involved as well and add your voice to the community.
