Celebrating our First Year!

It’s likely that many of you reading this are avid blog readers and Facebook fans (in fact, some of you might have found this article using these tools). In effort to reach out to and stay connected with a wide ranging audience, the University has been exploring social media tools for quite some time now. Specifically on the topic of sustainability, UR has a blog called The Green Dandelion, and a Facebook page, UR Sustainable. Both of these tools are used to promote and raise awareness about sustainability as well as highlight the many achievements in sustainability that all of the campuses of our University continue make. The authors of The Green Dandelion are University Facilities and Services staff members and articles are often used a means to communicate the department’s efforts to save energy and natural recourses.

While the UR Sustainable Facebook page is only a few months old, The Green Dandelion will be celebrating its 1 year anniversary on the 18th of September. In honor of the anniversary we invite you to visit the blog and “like” the UR Sustainable Facebook page if you haven’t already done so. You can also celebrate by simply spreading the word about the blog and Facebook page to all of your friends so the University’s Sustainability community can continue to grow. We also encourage you to help make it all a more interactive experience by leaving comments of your own.

The Green Dandelion and UR Sustainable serve to help unite the University community around a common topic and similar goals. A recent article highlighted the green cleaning practices of not just one part of campus, but the River Campus, Medical Center, and the Memorial Art Gallery. Students, faculty, and staff associated with all of these separate divisions of the University are able to come together to read and discuss on The Green Dandelion or UR Sustainable about their shared interest about the green efforts all over the UR.
