Clay’s Corner

Judy ClayPlanting your planet…..The University of Rochester is fortunate to have a city campus that resembles the bucolic country side. Through the hard work, dedication and professionalism of our Grounds department, UR is beautiful no matter what time of the year. This doesn’t happen by accident. All of our campuses are known for their vibrant variety of plants, flowers and trees. Growing and maintaining flora takes planning and a deep understanding of the local ecology. Recently our Grounds professionals are using drought tolerant annuals. These plants are less labor intensive and are compatible with our sustainability mission.  The Grounds team is also exploring alternatives as it relates to lawn care, aerating and mulching. Our knowledge and work practices grow as well as our gardens. When you run around the campus, late for a class or a meeting please remember to stop and smell the roses and the tulips and the daffodils; marvel at the dogwoods and the maples and the oaks. It’ll do wonders for your mood.
