Today! Surprise Popsicle Party!

Who: All ages!
When: 3pm
Where: Three bedroom playground (the locations will rotate throughout the Spring/Summer)
What: FREE freezer pops for as long as they last

**If your child is interested in volunteering, I am encouraging child participation. They can help by handing out popsicles, cutting them open, and/or picking up trash. Come 5 minutes early to the activity and I will give them an assignment**

Thursday:

Story Time!9:45am in the Community Room. We need more volunteers! Contact lisajchristensen at gmail dot com if you’re willing or sign up at Story Time.

Women’s Exercise Class: We will have another guest instructor this week. Mary, who teaches at the U of R athletic center, will be teaching a Turbo Kick class at 8pm in the Community Room. Next week, Thursday May 24th, Cyndi will be teaching Zumba again.

4pm-5pm: Kids’ Art Class making Mother’s and Father’s Day cards! In the Community Room

8pm: Women’s Exercise Class in the Community Room.

Saturday, May 12

10am-3pm: Yard Sale and Bake Sale. Set up your own yard sale on the lawn or just shop around at your neighbors’ sales! Kids love this opportunity to set up bake sales and sell treats to the crowd!

Whipple Weekly 4/30

This Week:
Women’s Exercise Class  has been changed to Thursdays 8pm in the Community Room. Instructors, Rebecca, Abby, and Cyndi, will alternate teaching circuit training, kick-boxing, and Zumba.

Story Time Thursday, 9:45am, in the Community Room.

Tween Book & Movie Club: Stormbreaker Friday, May 4th, 6-9pm, in the Community Room.
Do you like to talk about books with your friends? Like watching movies? Let’s do both! Kids are invited to join our book club. We’ll eat pizza while discussing Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz, then watch the movie. This FREE activity is designed for those 8-14 years old, but anyone who has read the book is welcome. Please email meta AT vornehm DOT com if you are interested, so we’ll order enough food.

 

Last Week:
Kids’ Yoga We practiced some new poses, the Grasshopper and the Boat.

CHANGED: Exercise Class Date

From now on, the Women’s Exercise Class will be held on Thursdays at 8pm in the Community Room. Instructors, Rebecca, Abby, and Cyndi, will alternate teaching circuit training, kick-boxing, and Zumba. Bring your hand weights, resistance bands, and yoga mats if you have them. We’ll bring extras to share!

Whipple Weekly 4/23

This Week:
Women’s Exercise Class  We will have a guest instructor!  Cyndi is an experienced Zumba instructor and a friend of Whipple Park who will be offering this FREE Zumba class in the Community Room, 8pm Monday as usual.

Story Time We will have Story Time on Thursday, 9:45am, in the Community Room.

Kids’ Yoga Enjoy relaxing breathing and easy yoga poses taught by WPK neighbor Kavita. Please bring a large towel or yoga mat. For maximum comfort, don’t eat for 2 hours before class, 6pm – 7pm, Thursday, in the Community Room.

Over 100 people enjoyed the Easter potluck and egg hunt.  We hope everyone had fun on such a beautiful spring morning!

Whipple Weekly 4/2

This Week:

Gardening Sign-Up and Information Meeting (New Gardeners)
Returning gardeners have done the registrations last Monday. Now it is time for new gardeners to register. There is no charge for garden plots, but they are limited. They will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. You must register IN PERSON for a plot.
When: April 4, Saturday 10am – 11:30am
Where: Community Room in the basement of 231 Quinby Road

Women’s Exercise Class
Rebecca and Abby will be teaching our weekly Women’s Exercise Class. We will be doing circuit training and abs. Bring a mat and resistance bands (or hand weights), if you have them, and water.
When: Monday 8pm
Where: Community Room

Easter Potluck and Egg Hunt
Please join us for great food and fun at the annual Whipple Park Brunch and Easter (candy- filled) Egg Hunt! Enjoy international food and a popular American tradition with your neighbors!
Potluck Brunch: Please bring your favorite breakfast, lunch, or snack items to share with your neighbors! We will provide orange juice. Please come and enjoy the food even if you don’t plan to stay for the hunt.
Easter Egg Hunt: Please bring a basket and your own candy-filled plastic eggs. We suggest bringing 6 to 12 eggs per child. Each child will only be able to find as many candy-filled eggs as they brought to the hunt (so if you bring 6 candy-filled eggs, you may only take 6 eggs). Plastic eggs and candy can be bought inexpensively at local drugstores or dollar stores.
When: Saturday 10am
Where: Quinby Quad (Playground between Quinby and Richardson Roads)

We were surprised by how different the book was from the movie Guardians of Ga’Hoole.  Because everyone has already read/seen Harry Potter, we will read Stormbreaker by Anthony Horowitz for our May 4th book club.

Kid’s Yoga:
Kavita taught us a tag-like game called “kho” this week.

Kavita Chandwani will lead monthly FREE yoga classes for children 7 years old and up. Kavita teaches gentle postures, relaxation techniques, & breathing. Please don’t eat for 2 hours before class.
