THANK YOU FOR EXPRESSING INTEREST IN THE UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER’S FIRST-YEAR ORIENTATION OUTING TREK PROGRAM!
We sincerely appreciate it, and although we would like to accommodate every one of you, we only have the resources to take 100 incoming first-years this year. For this reason, and because we don’t want to separate current interest from past accomplishment, (why discriminate, right?) we have designed the program so that our selection process is ENTIRELY RANDOM.
Therefore, this isn’t an application; instead we use this information as a means for us to learn your trip preferences beforehand, so if you do get (randomly) selected we can place you on a trip that will appropriately compliment your personality and ability. Upon reaching the submission deadline for this interest form, the random selection process will begin and selected students will be placed on trips (according to their preferences) until each one is filled. At that point, we will notify everyone with the outcome; regardless of whether or not you’re selected, you’ll still hear from us. We will then place the students who were not selected in a waiting pool, and we will continue random selection as soon as spots open until each trip is filled with confirmed participants.
