About The Trek
For the third time, UR FOOT will be leading a trek to Chimney Mountain and Eagle Cave. The group will drive to Chimney Mountain and spend the first night camping at Puffer Pond. The following day the group will hike part way up the mountain and spend an afternoon exploring Eagle Cave, the largest cave system in the Adirondacks. In the evening we will collect our gear and reach the campsite on the summit. We’ll spend the evening exploring the unique rock formations, making s’mores, and stargazing. The next day we’ll pack up, descend, and return to Rochester in time for dinner. No previous experience hiking or caving is necessary, but being comfortable with heights and in SMALL dark spaces is a must. The cave is completely natural, and has many crawls, crevices, scrambles, switchbacks, and a rope ladder decent.
