About The Trek
For the third time, UR FOOT will be leading a trek to Chimney Mountain and Eagle Cave. The group will drive to Chimney Mountain and spend the first night camping at Puffer Pond. The following day the group will hike part way up the mountain and spend an afternoon exploring Eagle Cave, the largest cave system in the Adirondacks. In the evening we will collect our gear and reach the campsite on the summit. We’ll spend the evening exploring the unique rock formations, making s’mores, and stargazing. The next day we’ll pack up, descend, and return to Rochester in time for dinner. No previous experience hiking or caving is necessary, but being comfortable with heights and in SMALL dark spaces is a must. The cave is completely natural, and has many crawls, crevices, scrambles, switchbacks, and a rope ladder decent.

Trek Leaders

Kevin is a rising senior at the U of R. He is currently pursuing a Molecular Genetics degree with a chemistry minor. He is from Concord, New Hampshire and keeps very active with hiking in the White Mountains, running, swimming and even Rochester’s Club Water Polo Team. That being said, he believes nothing beats a full pepperoni pizza to yourself. Kevin was on Caving his freshmen year and it was easily one of the best experiences of college so far. This will be his second year leading Caving.

Hey guys, I’m Erin! I’m a rising sophomore at the U of R currently studying Optical Engineering, with a possible double major or minor in Dance. In my free time, I’m a member of the UR Women’s Rowing team, as well as a sister of Alpha Phi. I also run on the school’s club running team, URunning. I have always been a lover of nature, having lived in the Catskills my whole life. My favorite outdoor activities are free solo climbing, kayaking, backpacking, urban exploring, camping, and of course, hiking. I was a caving trekee last semester! My UR FOOT experience is one of my best memories of college so far. I can’t wait to meet my treekes and bring them into my favorite cave!
