The 9th Annual E-Cycle Day Approaches

The ninth annual E-Cycle Day is fast approaching! The event will be held on Friday, November 11 from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Zone 3 South (formerly known as Park Lot). E-Cycle Day is an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and affiliates of the University to safely and conveniently recycle unwanted personal electronics. Each year, employees look forward to E-Cycle Day. A registered America Recycles Day event, E-Cycle Day makes getting rid of old, cluttering electronics painless and ecofriendly! University of Rochester’s Facilities and Services partners with Sunnking, an electronic recycling company, to securely recycle the electronics dropped off at the event.

Items accepted at E-Cycle Day include computer monitors and accessories (printers, monitors, mice, keyboards, webcams, speakers, microphones, etc.), scanners, televisions, microwave ovens, coffee makers, telephones, power tools, gaming equipment, lamps, cables and wires, cellphone chargers, video equipment, tablets, and anything else with a circuit board or a cord. Appliances containing Freon, such as refrigerators and air conditioners, as well as broken CRTs, alkaline batteries, CDs, DVDs, and tapes will not be accepted at this event. For a more complete list of accepted items, visit Sunnking’s website.

Sunnking is an EPA R2 certified electronics recycling, data destruction, & asset management company dealing in end-of-life electronics and equipment. Sunnking’s standards of hard drive wiping and shredding ensure that all personal information on those electronics is erased, eliminating instances of identity theft. After security measures have been taken, Sunnking makes its best effort to resell or reuse all electronics.

This event is free to University of Rochester employees and students and there is no limit to the number of electronics you can bring. Enthusiastic volunteers will be present in Zone 3 South (former Park Lot) on E-Cycle Day to help unload electronics. Please bring personal and household electronics only. Departmental and University-owned electronics will not be accepted. To schedule a pick-up of University-owned electronics, visit the University IT Equipment Recovery Program webpage. If you cannot attend E-Cycle Day, the IT Equipment Recovery Program extends it services for personal items as well! You can also utilize the Monroe County ecopark where you can drop-off most electronics.
