How to Reuse Pillows?

When did you last replace your pillow?

Experts encourage you to wash and change your pillows often to ensure a hygienic and healthy lifestyle. Over time, your natural body oils accumulate on your pillow and absorb odors. Washing your pillow regularly can address those issues and prevent dust mites from accumulating.

So if you feel your pillow has reached its end and you have a new pillow, great! What should you do with your old one? Do not fret. Here are a few ways you can refurbish them:

  1. Cloths and Compost: Cut up your old pillow case and use them as rags to clean up spills. If you own a feather pillow, you can compost the stuffing.
  2. Pet Bed: Don’t waste your money and the earth’s resources by purchasing a new bed for your furry friend. Use your pillow to restuff an old bed. If you don’t have pets, you can always donate to a local animal shelter. Learn more about raising your pets sustainably here.
  3. Garden Knee Pillow: Protect your joints while you garden or landscape your house. These cushions will surely encourage you and your family to get outside more often.
  4. Door Stopper: Place your pillow on the bottom of your door. This is a great tip for those hot summer months when you want to keep the cool air in and hot air out.
  5. Stack them up: Stuffing two pillows into a single pillow case can make your pillow seem good as new!

  1. That’s a great tip, thank you for sharing! I actually just replaced my pillow last week after realizing how much it had flattened over time. I love the idea of repurposing old pillows instead of just throwing them away. The garden knee pillow idea is especially intriguing to me since I love spending time outside. Do you have any other creative ideas for repurposing old pillows?
