Announcing the 11th Annual E-Cycle Day

Get ready to recycle your old and unwanted electronics! The eleventh annual E-Cycle Day will be held on Friday, November 2, from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Zone 3 South parking lot. This event is open to all students, faculty, and staff of the University, and provides people with a safe and sustainable way to dispose of old electronics. For this event, Facilities and Services partners with Sunnking, a company that specializes in safely recycling electronics.

Items collected at the event include computers and accessories, including printers, monitors, mice, keyboards, webcams, speakers, microphones, and more. Scanners, televisions, microwave ovens, coffee makers, telephones, power tools, gaming equipment, lamps, cables and wires, cell phone chargers, video equipment, tablets, and anything else with a circuit board or a cord will also be accepted. Sunnking does not accept electronic items containing the cooling agent Freon, including refrigerators, air conditioners, broken CRTs, alkaline batteries, CDs, DVDs, and tapes. Visit Sunnking’s website (insert hyperlink) for a complete list of accepted items.

Sunnking is a local EPA R2 certified electronics recycling, data destruction, and asset management company, specializing in end-of-life electronics and equipment. Sunnking erases all personal information and eliminates the possibility of identity theft before recycling any electronics. After taking appropriate security measures, Sunnking works to resell or reuse electronics.

This event is free to all University of Rochester employees and students. Personal electronic items are accepted; departmental and University-owned electronics will not be accepted. To dispose of University-owned electronics, visit the University IT Equipment Recovery Program website. If you cannot attend E-Cycle Day, the IT Equipment Recovery Program disposes safely of personal items as well. You can also visit the Monroe County ecopark  which accepts most electronics.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact Amy Kadrie at 362-5739 or by email at amy.kadrie@rochester.edu. Start gathering your old electronics, and look forward to seeing you there!
