Sustainable Swimwear for the 4th of July

Ever wonder where you could find low-impact swimwear? Well, here’s the answer; below are 11 U.S. based recycled-material-swimwear companies! Although many are on the pricier side, these suits are made to last. And, they’re all dedicated to reducing their environmental impact — so what’s not to love?

Vitamin A swimwear is made with EcoLux™ fabric, which is made from recycled nylon fibers. Their goal is to combine “feminine design with sustainable innovation,” which they do through sleek designs and recycled materials. They also keep production local to reduce emissions.

Mara Hoffman swimwear did not start out as a sustainable-focused company, however they’ve grown toward reducing their impact every day. Their swimwear is made from recycled materials, ranging from recycled nylon to polyster, and everything in between.

Rey Swimwear, a company started by Jessica Rey when she noticed the lack of fashionable swimwear that wasn’t a bikini. Rey swimwear uses fabric made of 100% regenerated pre and post consumer waste, and all suits are made in the US in sweatshop-free factories.

 

  1. Summersalt

Summersalt believe that “companies of the future must have sustainability at the core of their business model to make a lasting impact and do right by the environment.” All of their swimsuits are made from recycled materials and are meant to last you a long time!

 

  1. Manakai

Self-dubbed Hawaii’s “#1 Sustainable and Ethical Swimwear Company,” Manakai makes all of its swimwear from “regenerated nylon,” which comes from plastic materials other than bottles.

 

  1. Amara

Amara suits are made in LA of Italian 78% ECONYL® Recycled Polyamide and 22% Lycra® Xtra Life™. Their goal is to “teach the world to do more with less; Creating a lifestyle to reduce our impact.”

 

  1. GREENLEE SWIM

GREENLEE’s goal was to create swim-wear for all women whilst minimizing their environmental footprint. All fabrics are made from recycled materials.

 

  1. Manta

Manta is “Ecoluxe swimwear inspired by the sea at night,” with each piece made from the aforementioned recycled nylon ECONYL®. They are conscientiously designed and built to last.

 

  1. SUMMERLOVE

SUMMERLOVE SWIMWEAR is a member of 1% FOR THE PLANET, a group that contains businesses and individuals supporting positive environmental solutions. All of their swimsuits are made from 100% recycled polyamide fiber from pre and post-consumer materials.

 

  1. Volcom Simply Solid – Volcom’s “Simply Solid Swim” is made from ECONYL recycled yarn from repurposed nylons. Unfortunately, this recycled material is only available in Volcom’s Women’s swimwear.

 

  1. Outerknown

Finally, a sustainability-focused company with swimwear for men! Outerknown’s Trunks are made from 100% recycled polyester and nylon materials.
