Trump donates his salary to the National Parks- sounds great, right? Until you consider his budget plans which propose to cut the National Park Service budget. The money Trump donated, a whopping $78,333, represents only a small fraction of the money the National Park Service would lose if his budget is implemented. The exact amount Trump wants to cut from our beloved parks? A small $1.5 billion. But don’t worry, Trumps donation makes up for it, right?
But most people aren’t falling for his publicity stunt. An article published by NPR criticized his actions, including this quote from the executive director of the environmental non-profit, the Sierra Club: “If Donald Trump is actually interested in helping our parks, he should stop trying to slash their budgets to historically low levels,” said Michael Brune, executive director of the Sierra Club. “America’s parks, and the people and economies they support, need real funding, not a giant fake check. Parks are a good investment and we must invest now if we want them to be around for our kids,” Brune added.
