Student’s Corner

Get excited, humans of Rochester, the UR Fall shuttle schedule starts this week! Take advantage of your university affiliation and travel the city in sustainable style. Hop on a UR shuttle and see some of the awesome places that the ROC has to offer.

  1. Hart’s Local Grocers

Why: It’s a cool little grocery store with fairly reasonable prices. They are big on local goods and offer some really cool things. You don’t have to wait until the weekend to get to Wegmans; it’s located right near Eastman.

When: Every day (with a few exceptions) on the Orange Line or Monday-Friday on the Red Line

Distance from bus stop: 0.4 miles from Eastman Living Center

  1. The Rochester Public Market

Why: Fresh food from local vendors is always a good time. My favorite part is the people watching. There are local musicians all over the place and great smells and delicious foods.

When: Everyone knows about the Public Market Green Line on Saturdays in the Fall and Spring, but did you know that the public market is open year round on Saturdays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays? Maybe you did. Well, it’s open until 1 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and you can get there on the Orange Line.

Distance from bus stop: 0.9 miles from Eastman Living Center (Red or Orange Lines) or steps from the Saturday Public Market Green Line

  1. Useless Objects on Park Ave

Why: It’s a cool place to get some new things for your dorm or home, or just to browse. There is plenty to do on Park Ave when you’re done.

When: Thursday-Sunday from 12-6 pm* on the Orange Line. (*The hours are limited by the store; the Orange Line runs to Park and Culver every day of the week.)

Distance from bus stop: 0.6 miles from Park and Culver

  1. Village Gate Square

Why: There are some really cute places to check out and grab some food or drinks. It includes some really cool places like Lento and Dark Horse Coffee. Great for date night!

When: Any day on the Orange Line.

Distance from bus stop: 0.4 miles from Goodman and East

  1. Costco

Why: This stop was just added to the Tuesday/Wednesday Green Line to bring students to the new Costco in Rochester. Consider getting a Costco membership or going with a friend to get some good deals and stock up on things you’ll need.

When: Tuesday and Wednesday evenings

Distance from bus stop: A few steps from the Costco stop.

  1. Phillips European

Why: Their desserts are delicious and abundant. If you’re looking for a nice break and have some lunch time to spare, head on over to the Corporate Woods area. They also serve and boast of delicious chicken french, a dish unique to Rochester.

When: Monday-Friday 11 am- 5 pm. Take the Corporate Woods Shuttle from Whipple Park to Corporate Woods Building 30.

Distance from bus stop: 0.1 miles from Building 30 stop

  1. Pittsford Farms Dairy

Why: After visiting Trader Joe’s and the huge Weggies, you’re probably going to want some ice cream.

When: Sundays on the Pittsford Plaza Green Line.

Distance from bus stop: 1.5 miles from Pittsford Plaza stop (budget some walking time)

  1. Highland Park

Why: There is an amazing arboretum to explore as well as a castle and a gorgeous sunken garden. This is the perfect spot for a Sunday stroll.

When: Every day on the Orange Line.

Distance from bus stop: 0.5 miles from Mt. Hope and McLean stop or 1.5 miles from Sue B.

Keep in mind that all of the shuttles have some exceptions. Be sure to check the schedules ahead of time. It’s not a bad idea to look ahead at returning times and maps of the location you’re visiting. Best of luck, Rochesterians!
