Shuffles, the University winter safety penguin, is pleased to announce that the 2015 Together We Can winter contest is complete and the winners selected. The contest asked for UR community members to nominate someone who assisted them during their outdoor winter journey. Comments in the contest included; “shoveled the entry door repeatedly throughout snowy days,” “helped clean my car of ice and snow,” “helped jumpstart cars,” “drove to Hamlin to help me get my car unstuck,” and “walked me to my car, “ among multiple others. In one instance, Kimberly Andujar nominated David Gotte for taking the shuttle from SMH to 175 Corporate Woods and cleaning “a bunch of our cars off due to the heavy snow and ice we had that day.” Three individuals were nominated by multiple people: Dale McDowell from the Memorial Art Gallery, Andy Springer from Medical Center Facilities and Sheldon Park from Lot 11 parking.
In review of all the nominations Shuffles stated, “It is heartwarming to see the care and concern exhibited by those nominated and the appreciation felt by those who took the time to nominate others.” After a record setting February, with extreme cold, it certainly is wonderful to work at a place where people look out for each other.
Nine winners were selected from the nominations received, they are: Dale McDowell, Kristie Bilohlavek, Gloria Dupree, Sheldon Park, Ivan Laza, Michael Ritz, Mike Carey, David Gotte and Andy Springer. These individuals will receive a prize of their choice in addition to Together We Can awards and lapel pins. Additional nominees receiving Together We Can lapel pins and/or awards are: Sue Nielsen, Mike Miller, Jessica Moriarity, Darfy Mundt, Tim Ashwell, Elizabeth Rogers, Kris McGee, Sarah Horan, Ellen Hurley, Tania Fonte, University’s Winter Road and Sidewalk crew, Phyllis Mangefrida, Larry Steele, Brian Guillod, Dan Schied and Grounds Crew, Matthew Spielman, Scott DeHollander, Chuck Burpee and Elnora Pugh.
