Local Food Systems Talk

Come and Learn About Rochester’s Food Hub: Economic Development and Public Health in the Region

7pm, April 10, 501 Morey Hall

Mitch Gruber, Food Access Programs Manager at Foodlink and PhD Candiate in History at UofR, will be discussing Foodlink’s shift from Food Bank to Food Hub, focusing on their Food Access Programs that open up new markets for individuals and institutions in underserved neighborhoods and communities throughout the greater Rochester area. He manages the programs that let Foodlink shift their focus from “Food Bank to Food Hub,” including the Urban Farm Stands, Curbside Markets, and Community Store Initiative. In both program management and academic research, his work aims to show how to use existing infrastructure to create a more equitable food system.

Chris Hartman, founder of Rochester’s Headwater Foods, will discuss its efforts to develop, in partnership with farmers and alignment with community and regional needs, as a socially and environmentally responsible upstate NY Food Hub. Headwater Foods is the organization behind The Good Food Collective and 3 Square Kitchen, longtime partners with the UofR.
