Shred Fest 2012: Drop Off Your Paper Documents to be Securely Shredded and Recycled

Good news, everyone! Our first ever document shredding event held last year was a great success and as a free service to all University of Rochester employees, University Facilities and Services is holding its second annual Shred Fest in Park Lot on Friday, July 20th, between 7am and 4:30pm. During the event, all University staff and faculty are invited to drive by and drop off any unwanted personal documents from home to be recycled in a safe and secure manner. Last year, over 6 tons of paper (12,390 pounds) from old files, folders, notebooks, newspapers and magazines were securely shredded, and saved from the landfill!

Oftentimes when people are concerned about identity theft they will opt to dispose of their paper documents directly into the trash as a way of minimizing risk. However, this unfortunately results in the disposal of large quantities of paper that could have been recycled. The Shred Fest provides the perfect opportunity to protect both your identity, and the environment in a single go!

IronMountain, the company trusted by the University of Rochester to securely recycle its confidential documents, will be responsible for disposing of documents during the event. The actual shredding is going to take place onsite, in an Iron Mountain Mobile Shred Truck. All paper documents received will first be placed into a locked container, before being sent down a chute in the truck to be securely shredded. A camera will be placed inside allowing concerned document owners to monitor their paper being shredded, and ensure that their personal information is protected. Please note that the Mobile Shred Truck will be making other business runs at various times throughout the day, so availability to witness document shredding will vary.

For those of you who are familiar with the very popular annual E-Cycle Day collection event, the Shred Fest will be held in the same location and will have a similar set up where you can drive up, unload your vehicle with the help of event volunteers, and then continue on to the rest of your day.

Directions: To get to Park Lot by car, from the Medical Center, (1) Head south on Elmwood and take a right onto Wilson Blvd. to enter the River Campus (2) Take your first right (before the information booth) onto Trustee Road (3) Take another right onto Intercampus Drive (4) Drive across the bridge over Elmwood Ave (5) Park Lot will be to the right! Signs will be posted to help direct you. Click here for a campus map. Click here for directions via Google Maps.

  1. Have you ever thought about including a littlle bit more than jist your articles?
I mean, what yyou say is valuable andd all.
However think about if yoou added some great images or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”!
Your content is excellent but with images
and clips, this blog could certainly be one of the greatest in its niche.
    Terrific blog!

  2. In the few last years, we can see the reducing amount of waste in landfills. It is possible only because of recycling equipment. Nowadays, balers and shredders are playing an important role in industries in solving the problem of waste material.
