Electronics Recycling Event

Do you have old computers, laptops, telephones or other electronic equipment sitting around your basement, garage, or dorm room? Have you been meaning to get rid of them but just haven’t found the time?

The University of Rochester and electronics recycler, Sunnking, are here to help!

On Friday, October 29th, 2010 from 6:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., drop off your unwanted household electronics in Park Lot.

Sunnking will provide free environmentally responsible disposal and recycling! If you’re a University of Rochester student or employee, you can bring anything from your old laptop to broken digital cameras, keyboards, stereos, PDA’s, speakers.  We will accept anything with computer chip – with one notable exception; because of the increased price associated with the disposal of old TVs, we won’t be accepting them at this event.

Worried about confidential information? Your secrets are safe with us! With any electronics we collect, storage devices (like the hard drives in computers) are destroyed, and the metals from them are recycled. Even if a piece of equipment is sold for reuse, the hard drives are replaced and the old ones are dismantled and destroyed to prevent identity theft.

  1. To Whom it may concern:

This is Mike Miller and Christopher Warren, with The CommuniTech Refurbishing Center for the non-profit organization The Academy for Career Development. Our center refurbishes donated computers and distributes them back into the Rochester community. In fact, over the years, we have given around 3000 refurbished computers to families in the Rochester area. Additionally, we have provided computers for Community Technology Learning Centers at various churches, recreation centers and agencies in the Rochester area.

I am writing to inquire as to the availability of any unwanted computers for donation, now or in the near future, from your institution.

Any donation given to The Academy for Career Development are refurbished by our community volunteers who will work very hard to continue the
life of any donated computers, while providing a very needed service
and resource back to our community. Most importantly, all hard drives entering our center are wiped according to Department of Defense standards.

Please consider us in your plans as you upgrade or replace computer equipment at your facility.

    Thank you,
If I am contacting the wrong department, could you please forward this information.
