Armed with a $3.2 million grant from the National Science Foundation, UR is launching the doctoral program this year with the aim of turning out people with advanced degrees in various disciplines, from engineering to economics, but with similar groundings in the science, business and public policy of solar energy, said Philippe Fauchet, chairman of the department of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Rochester and director of UR’s new solar energy doctoral program.
The program will enroll six students a year. The National Science Foundation money is to be used to pay for stipends and tuition as well as some lab equipment.
