Have an eco-friendly get together

forecastNow that summer is on its way, why not have an eco-friendly get together? Many people will be breaking out the barbeque grill and planning a family or neighborhood get together this weekend. Take the time to think about changing a few things to make your get together more eco-friendly. Below are just a few things you can do to make a difference:

Grill green – use a grill that burns gas as it is cleaner than charcoal.

Clean green – use natural cleaning products to clean your outside patio furniture.

Go organic – shop at a local farmer’s market for food ingredients. You can find great local produce and meat at your local farmer’s market and they taste great. You can find a list of local farm markets at InfoRochester.

Water – put out pitchers of water and iced tea with re-useable plastic cups rather than bottled water.

Bio Dishes – switch to biodegradable utensils, bowls, cups and plates. Or better yet, use your regular or plastic dishes and cutlery that can be reused and washed.

Reuse Napkins and Tablecloths – use washable napkins and tablecloths to reduce paper waste, they are prettier too.

Compost – compost your leftover food scraps.

Offer recycling – for your guests, line decorative baskets with clear plastic shopping bags, label as recycling bins, and place near the trash can.
