Steamy weather didn’t keep 5,500 Golisano Children’s Hospital supporters from filling Genesee Valley Park on June 1 for the 17th annual Stroll for Strong Kids Walk and 5k Run. People came from near and far to celebrate the hospital and, more importantly, its pediatric patients. Dressed in brightly-colored t-shirts, proudly displaying the name of a young loved one, Stroll teams walked, and ran, across the finish line in support of Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC).
This year’s construction-themed Stroll brought in a record-breaking $415,000 in support of the children’s hospital! Support from various community organizations, on top of commitment from numerous volunteers, contributed to the event’s overall success.
The most critical, and inspiring, aspect of the Stroll, however, was the event’s many teams and the level of fundraising they participate in, year after year.
“The teams and families that come out to support the Stroll for Strong Kids are the absolute heart of this event,” said Michael Fahy, assistant director of community affairs. “With all of the kids running around and smiling, all of the t-shirts telling a story without needing words, and with so many families sharing stories about how the hospital has touched their lives, we feel so fortunate to have the amazing support from our community that we do.”

Miracle Weekend concluded on June 2 with the 30th anniversary of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ (CMNH) Telethon, hosted by News10NBC. Golisano Children’s Hospital supporters, patients, families, physicians, and staff came together to share stories of miracles with the community. Presented by Tops Friendly Markets, this year’s Telethon raised $4,030,578! The total was made up of fundraising from multiple CMNH sponsored events, held throughout the past year, as well as generous pledges from the community.
Telethon was a perfect finish to an inspirational weekend. Year after year, the Stroll and Telethon showcase the immense support Golisano Children’s Hospital receives from the community and how much our services mean to the region. We greatly appreciate our supporters’ dedication to improving care for our patients.
