Planning Begins for New Golisano Children’s Hospital
[slideshow]Excitement was in the air as faculty and staff from Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) gathered to begin discussing plans to build the new Golisano Children’s Hospital. Thanks to a very generous $20 million donation from the hospital’s namesake, Tom Golisano, hopes for a new building were catapulted from a dream to reality.
“Thank you to all of you for being here today,” said Nina F. Schor, M.D., Ph.D., pediatrician-in-chief of Golisano Children’s Hospital and chair of Pediatrics at URMC. “You are the heart and soul of what’s about to happen and that’s what makes this so incredibly exciting. This process is going to be a team process from the very start to the very end.”
Following the kick-off event, groups broke out into brainstorming sessions about how to best make use of the new space, to better serve patients and families. Division chiefs, nurse leaders and program directors were joined by parent representatives and members of Ballinger Architects and LeChase Construction. The discussions were the first of many, before the groundbreaking, which is expected to begin as early at next August. Stay tuned for more news, as we continue to make progress on plans for our future children’s hospital.
