The Women and Gender Studies Steering committee at Nazareth College is hosting a two day conference that starts today Thursday, October 24 and Friday, October 25. The committee has organized a series of events to provide a genuinely interdisciplinary space to bring together regional scholars and artists, students from Nazareth College, and Rochester City School students to explore the ways in which underrepresented communities around the world have deployed hip-hop as a cultural site in which to re-articulate their identities in an attempt to create vehicles for social and political participation. The conference features dance workshops, roundtable discussions, film screenings, and a slam poetry performance. We encourage all to attend at least one of the many educational and insightful events offered during the conference. Check out the events listing here.
Some workshops require a reservation; please contact Anne Marie LaFave at alafave2@mail.naz.edu to reserve a seat. For general information about the conference, please contact Dr. Rachel Bailey Jones at rjones3@naz.edu. Nazareth College is located at 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y. 14618.
