Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!

National Hispanic Heritage Month runs September 15th through October 15th.  The University has several events planned to honor the month as well as a celebration page with a full description of events and a poster to download.

Next Friday, September 30 at 8:00pm is the first event of the month: a performance of “Platanos Y Collard Greens” at Strong Auditorium on the River Campus. The play, now in its eighth season, has been hugely popular since its debut in 2003 and travelled to more than 250 colleges in over 30 states, as well as other Off-Broadway and performing arts venues.

Via Platanos Y Collard :

Platanos (that is Plaintains, Plantanos or Platanos:) Y Collard Greens is the hilarious hit romantic comedic Off-Broadway play that tells the story of Freeman and Angelita, two college students, who fall in love at first sight…until her mother finds out and has a heart attack! Platanos will remind you of your family, your loves and your life. Platanos is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud, inspire you, and make you think.

The event is sponsored by SALSA, the David T. Kearns Center, the Latino Professional Alliance at the University of Rochester, and the office of Alumni Relations. It is free and open to the public.
