100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day

Today marks the official 100th International Women’s Day!

Via International Women’s Day 2011:

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some countries like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, IWD is a national holiday. The first IWD event was run in 1911 so 2011 sees the Global Centenary.

Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women’s craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.

We are celebrating locally with a trip to Seneca Falls, NY during the day, and a celebration at the Rochester AAUW house this evening. Please say “hi” if you see SBAI out and about on this historic day!
