This week is the Latina Week of Action for Reproductive Justice, sponsored by the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice.
More about the week of action via LatinaInstitute.org:
Even as Latinas continue to face unprecedented attacks on the health of our communities and the dignity of immigrant families, we are determined to lead the fight for reproductive justice. This year, we join our hermanas at California Latinas for Reproductive Justice and the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights for our 3rd annual Latina Week of Action for Reproductive Justice August 6-10, 2012.
Under the rallying cry of our ongoing “¡Soy Poderosa!” campaign, we will be lifting up stories of Latina leadership and civic engagement as well as taking action across the country and online to demonstrate our power and hold decision makers accountable.
There are many ways to get involved:
- Submit a Soy Poderosa photo to show your power and join the community!
- Tell your story at the third annual blog carnival.
- Get in touch with your governor about health care law and reproductive justice.
- Find an event in your city.
If you’re interested in more health care justice events, check out Rochester AIDS Care’s annual A Call to Women of Color Social Gathering this Saturday, August 11. Organizers say the gathering focuses on “empowering women of color to engage in conversation, to raise awareness of HIV and other health disparities, and to consider getting HIV tested.” This year’s keynote will be Verneda White. White is the founder of Human Intonation, a company that creates graphic t-shirts and donates 20% of the profits to HIV/AIDS Awareness charities. A Call to Women of Color Social Gathering is organized by women of color for women of color. This event is free and takes places at The Vineyard, located on 126 Sander Street from 12pm – 6pm. The gathering is for women of color, organized by women of color. Registration is required, so make sure to contact Sady Fischer at 585-210-4189 or Jackie Dozier at 585-210-4126/585-760-3447.
