Creative Workshop Faculty show what they will teach this Fall and Winter

By Rachael Baldanza, Creative Workshop Curriculum Director

bryce-ely-phyllis-faculty-show-09-smallerforweb1The newly installed Creative Workshop Faculty Exhibition in the Lucy Burne Gallery allows for an education. In one small show, thirty eight artists—all of whom teach classes for adults or children in the Creative Workshop —present their own work as a glimpse into their own studios, process, and style. As diverse as the courses we offer, this exhibition includes colorful and engaging landscapes, bright floral paintings, innovations upon traditional ceramic forms, artwork based on the human figure by jewelry, sculpture and drawing teachers, and artwork inspired by children.

Paintings by these adult painting teachers show the variety of their own approaches and the depth of their skills. Above, Phyllis Bryce Ely’s painting October Day, Ellison Park demonstrates the spontaneity she will encourage when she teaches “Painting En Plein Air: Inspired by Outside” this fall.

Details of two different paintings by Jeanne Lindsay (above) and Lisa Pelletier-Myers (below) present close observation of nature (especially fragrant, fascinating, purple flowers).

myers-echinacea-faculty-show-09Jeanne will teach “Intermediate/Advanced Watercolor” this fall, and Lisa Pelletier Myers will be teaching in our children’s program and offering a special new class (“Art for Absolute Beginners”) on Saturday mornings.

Dejan Pejovic’s Fairy charmingly sits after all of the the care and craft the artist put into making her through the bronze casting process. Dejan will teach sculpture and drawing this fall and winter.

Marlene Seidman’s To Make Sure (below), is a handmade artist book on a scroll. Marlene designed this book to fit into a special box, and she will teach digital photography, design, and bookmaking for beginners this fall.

As much as we love to create work in our own studios, we find inspiration and joy in teaching. Meet more of the artists who teach at the Creative Workshop by visiting the Workshop and seeing this show, joining us for one of the two open house events at the Memorial Art Gallery’s Clothesline Festival, Saturday, September 12 & Sunday, September 13.
