2013 ART & TREASURES From the Vault!
Submitted by Lois Sumberg, Gallery Council Member
Well it’s really not a vault, just the storage unit where donations for the 2013 Art & Treasures Sale have been accumulating since the sale closed last year. I visited the unit this week to see if there was anything interesting I could tell you about.
It’s chock full of stuff. In the entry way sat a Windsor style chair and bench. A box from Nordstrom’s held a vintage hat. I found fine Haviland china in another box and nicely crafted covered baskets in a third. After much deliberation I selected a leather lion, a hand decorated gourd and a china luncheon set to photograph and describe for you.
The lion, a miniature, is handmade of British mahogany brown cowhide leather. First developed in 1974 for an Arabian prince by the English company, Omersa, this version was made especially for Abercrombie and Fitch.
The decorated gourd is signed by the artist and decorated with what I believe are Native American Indian symbols.
The luncheon set by Royal Staffordshire has six plates and cups. The pattern is Peaceful Summer and its condition is mint.
If these items pique your interest, this is just the tip of the iceberg. To see more, please join me at Rochester’s most prestigious garage sale, the 2013 Art and Treasures Sale.
